  • Know your rate-limit on Twitter

    Posted on June 29, 2008 at 12:31 +0200 Tagged with , , ,

When you write an application that uses any kind of web-API out there, you eventually get to a point where you hit some kind of rate-limit. It's especially a problem when the API has a frequently changing rate-limit as Twitter's has. Well, at least on this front, there is now an easy way around :-)

  • Kleines Twitter-Update

Posted on June 9, 2008 at 09:23 +0200 Tagged with

  • Twitter's TOS don't mean anything?

    Posted on May 22, 2008 at 23:47 +0200 Tagged with , ,

In a lengthy article Ariel Waldman today described some of her recent experiences with Twitter and how they seems to handle violations against their TOS in case of harassment.

Esp. interesting was the "final" response after being in contact about this issue for multiple months:

Apologies for the delay here. We’ve reviewed the matter and decided it’s not in our best interest to get involved. We’ve tasked our lawyers with a full review and update of our TOS.

Well, I'd say, it should be in Twitter's best interest to prevent stuff like that from happening.

  • Twitterer in Österreich: Top 100

    Posted on March 30, 2008 at 20:57 +0200 Tagged with ,

  • I hate contact spam

    Posted on March 10, 2008 at 23:18 +0100 Tagged with ,

It's weird, everywhere you go on the net, you get spammed in one fashion or another. Websites, e-mail, etc. Not even IM is an exception mostly with porn spam ... nor is twitter. During the last couple of days I got 3 followers that all looked very ebay'ish to me: Meaning they looked like sellers on ebay that wanted to promote stuff.

What I don't get with this kind of spam, is the point. I mean, this only really works if you auto-follow people, which is a bad idea to begin with. I guess, auto-blocking people who want to follow you and have posted recently something about ebay or anything else that makes them appear to be contact-spammers would be nice ;-)

  • Twitter's @reply useless?

    Posted on March 3, 2008 at 17:04 +0100 Tagged with ,

For me one of the really great features of Twitter is the way in which you can actually have a discussion with other people by just prepending @username to a message when you want to respond to the latest message by that user. The problem is that Twitter doesn't seem to take into account what messages each user really sees from each other.

  • The End of Jaiku?

    Posted on Jan. 9, 2008 at 18:38 +0100 Tagged with , ,

ars technica today had an article about a whole lot of people leaving the locked down Jaiku and moving over to Twitter because of the instability of the service and missing contact with the developers. It's just funny because Michael and I were just talking about what happened to Jaiku right before I read this article :-)

Right when I first heard about Jaiku, I really liked it esp. because of the whole channel idea which simply made it more than just a Twitter-clone, but after Google bought them and made the whole service invite-only, nothing really happened there anymore, as far as I can tell. No new post on the blog, not a single message on the jaiku-feed. It's really sad :-( I guess sometimes now being bought by Google is a good thing.

Update: Seems like the folks over at Jaiku are still allive :-)

  • Barcamp about Microblogging

    Posted on Dec. 15, 2007 at 13:26 +0100 Tagged with , , ,

A different Barcamp is about to be held in April next year in Venice. The focus here seems to be microblogging, hence the title "Twittercamp" which will perhaps give it a totally different flair than all the Barcamps I've attended so far. And I love the logo ;-)

(P.S.: Sorry if some of the information here is inaccurate. I just used Google to translate the respective pages ;-))

  • Jaiku vs. Twitter

    Posted on April 7, 2007 at 21:35 +0200 Tagged with ,

Famous podcaster Leo Laporte yesterday announced that he would no longer use Twitter but move to their Finnish competitor Jaiku. Ok ... but he also wrote:

In truth, it offers a much richer set of features than Twitter.
