  • Vox adding groups

    Posted on Jan. 13, 2007 at 01:29 +0100 Tagged with , ,

The first thing I thought when reading this announcement I thought: "Cool, group blogging :D". But then I saw the screenshot attached to this post and what I saw looked very much like a group on flickr and not really like a group blog. I guess something like this also wouldn't really fit to Vox.

  • Performancing Metrics out of the business, what next?

    Posted on Jan. 6, 2007 at 23:11 +0100 Tagged with , , , ,

I have to admit, that Nick Wilson's post last night hit me quite hard and unprepared. I used Metrics basically exclusively for zerokspot since it was first released (last April IIRC). It won the race for me thanks to it's simplicity yet feature-richness.

Now it will be shut down on Wednesday and from what I've seen in the comments to the above post, there will be no way to export the already collected statistics. Too bad.

  • Weblog status ... weblog

    Posted on Oct. 23, 2006 at 11:58 +0200 Tagged with ,

Every server is down every once in a while, and your certainly want to know what happened if it hosts one of your favorite sites or one of your own ;) A good example on this front is Dreamhost's status blog, where Dreamhost publishes every single server maintenance task (at least as far as a lowly customer as I can tell).

sw-guide.de had now a similar idea: Shouldn't there be something like that for weblogs that are down or are planning a downtime? So they created http://blogwartung.de.

Apart from status updates, in the future this blog should also contain tips for webmasters on how to deal with problems on their blogs. Nice idea :)

  • Disabling Trackback

    Posted on Oct. 10, 2006 at 12:44 +0200 Tagged with , , , , ,

Just a small note: I've just disable trackback for now (and probably for some time) because I'm simply not motivated to moderate the about 200 spam posts I get every single day. As a replacement I will add hopefully sometime this week a small section where all the links pointing to a post or the whole site will be listed (based on search results on Technorati and probably also google and yahoo).

  • Small things (2008-08-02)

    Posted on Aug. 3, 2006 at 23:19 +0200 Tagged with , , , , , , , , ,

First I wanted to write a quite lengthy article how I liked IGN's podcast about the end of E3 and esp. Kathleen Sanders question about what will now get covered by "smaller sites" (compared to IGN, 1up, GameSpot).

225 words later I noticed, that I was talking rubbish and deleted that draft ;) So all you'll get today is just another post containing smaller things I had on my mind.

Well, 2nd (as I already mentioned the IGN podcast) I want to mention my new Vox blog which I will use probably nearly exclusively for Vox's Questions of the Day. I like it there so far, although it is, from a blog-tech standpoint a little bit minimalistic. There is RSS but there is no trackback/pingback/searchback/*back.

  • Vox's Question of the day

    Posted on July 25, 2006 at 21:27 +0200 Tagged with , , , , ,

I think last Wednesday while being on a train to Villach I listened to episode 28 of "Inside the Net" with Amber MacArthur were she and Leo Laporte interviewed Mena Trott of Six Apart. I think the main focus of the whole podcast was Six Apart's new entry level service Vox which's aim is to offer everyone a simple yet nice and powerful blogging platform.

During that interview, Mena or Amber mentioned the "Question of the day". From what I've understood the team behind Vox everyday comes up with a question to all its members to somehow provide a reason to blog everyday. Actually a really nice idea which is in my opinion way better than the flood of memes that were flying around the last couple of months.

  • Technorati turns 3 and gets updated

    Posted on July 24, 2006 at 16:28 +0200 Tagged with , , ,

How long did the last theme hold? Doesn't matter, Technorati now has a new look and also in most areas a new feel. This might also be thanks to some speed improvements. Celebrating the birthday of a project with a major update is always a good thing and I want to congratulate Dave Sifry and the team over there to Technorati. Without it, the blogosphere would be more less connected ;)

One of the last problems I still have with Technorati is, that somehow my blog is not correctly indexed and the pinging was not reliable during the last couple of days. For example one of my recent posts Say "Hello" to neighbours again is still on indexed although according to Technorati my site was updated 15hours ago.

  • Blogging on Got-next.com

    Posted on May 23, 2006 at 19:59 +0200 Tagged with , , , ,

Seems like blogging is getting more an more popular with gaming sites. No, I don't mean sites like [Kotaku] which are basically gaming blogs, but I mean the more traditional places for gamers on the web like [GameSpot][] and [1up][].
