  • No CrackBook anymore

No Crackbook anymoreAfter some e-mailing problems, 2 days ago I finally received word that the top-case replacement for my nice little white MacBook had arrived in Graz. But I'm in Klagenfurt and don't have a car, so why Graz? Simple. In Graz is the nearest certified Apple service provider for me and I don't really have the time to sent my MacBook to Apple (I guess all the way over to Amsterdam) and then sit on my hands waiting for it to return within a couple of weeks.

So yesterday I took the first bus -- that is the first in what I consider as morning compared to "night" -- and only 2.5 hours later I was standing in the offices of nc digitalis. If you ever get there, don't expect a storefront. It's basically just a small office within something that, I guess, previously was an apartment build in the early 1900s. Just ignore that if you don't like it ;-) I was just really happy with the service. Within 15 minutes I had my MacBook again with a shiny new top-case (and a clean keyboard :-P ). And the best part: It was all done under warranty. Just great service :D

  • New MacBook in the shopping basket

Hardware ... I love buying hardware. It's just so sad that you cannot buy hardware everyday. Yeah. All these rooms simply don't have enough space for all of it. Money?! Pfffff. ... yeah ... money ... But sometimes you simply need a new laptop if your old one starts to show its age everytime you find a new application you want to try.

Want something different from Apple? Then this might be something for you then: Apple has started a new service that lets you embed a widget into your website showing what songs you've recently purchased/reviewed/favorized songs from the iTunes Store and named it My iTunes.

  • Tons of new stuff from Apple

    Posted on Aug. 7, 2007 at 22:26 +0200 Tagged with , , , ,

Today Apple announced among other things a new iMac, a new version of iLife and iWorks and a new keyboard. To bad that now new MacMini(Paul Stamatiou found it) or small MacBook Pro was among those products but at least 50% of the presented those I named are very intersting for me ...

  • Thank you EMI!

    Posted on April 2, 2007 at 16:02 +0200 Tagged with , , ,

There is really not much more I can say about this. While 0.99EUR/USD definitely would have been nice, this deal is still a great first step into the right direction and I really hope, that the other major labels will follow EMI's lead in this.

  • Apple on (my) Campus

    Posted on Nov. 7, 2006 at 09:36 +0100 Tagged with , ,

Just received an e-mail on the students mailing list that today and on Thursday Apple on Campus will visit the University of Klagenfurt. This means a 12% discount on products like the MacMini or the MacPro and 8% on peripherals. Since I'm today all day on the University I guess I will find the time to visit their booth ;-) Now I just hope, that also people who already used up their student discount for this year get this AoC discount.

Might be a good opportunity to get a Mighty Mouse, a MacMini or a an iMac ;-) My PowerBook is still working.

For more details check out oncampus.at.

  • Has Apple changed education customer policy?

    Posted on Oct. 24, 2006 at 19:19 +0200 Tagged with , ,

I just went over to Apple's online store to see how much Apple would want from me for one of those new MacBookPros with Core 2 Duos. Right before entering my credentials identifying myself as a student I noticed a shift in the amount of products you're allowed to use that discount for per year. It seems like only one desktop machine and one notebook is allowed anymore. But at least I could buy up to 2 displays ...

  • Mail.app as alternative to Thunderbird?

    Posted on Oct. 21, 2006 at 00:05 +0200 Tagged with , , , , ,

For the last couple of days (actually since I noticed, that Mail.app is now finally able to work with Socks5 proxies) I started considering Apple's Mail.app as an alternative for Mozilla Thunderbird for my daily mail usage.

  • Lessons learnt yesterday

    Posted on Sept. 7, 2006 at 23:15 +0200 Tagged with , , , , , , ,

    1. If you pay lots of money for a gun in a game, better use it. For the last year or so I was avoiding finishing Ratchet & Clank for the PS2, because I always died in the last stage and got reset to somewhere right after the start. A few months before that happened for the first time, I played it quite a lot to get these 1.000.000 credits to get the super weapon in that game: The R.I.D.A. ... just to never use it. Yesterday I used it for the first time, and finally finished the game. Hurrayyy. Next.
    2. Trust Apple to surprise you. Well. To make a long story short: I love the new Core2Duo iMacs ;-) The specs look really great and I can't wait to get some money to get myself one of them for my birthday in 2 months ;)

  • Apple exchanged iBook/PowerBook batteries

    Posted on Aug. 25, 2006 at 08:43 +0200 Tagged with , ,

Seems like Dell wasn't Sony's only customer. Yesterday Apple too started an exchange program for batteries sold between October 2003 and August 2006 ... and guess who has one of the affected batteries :-?

After noticing this yesterday night thanks to this article on Golem I went right away to order a replacement, but somehow the form didn't accept my battery's serial number. Well, seems like the server had just too much load because now it finally seems to work :-) Let's see, how long it will take Apple this time to ship the new battery.
